Once again, the
good news is
that Alachua
County, Florida
has a very low
unemployment
rate. The
bad news is that
we have a large
gap in a very
important wage
range.

On the above
income
distribution
graph (click the
graph for a
larger version),
with the State
of Florida
represented in
red and Alachua
County
Represented in
Blue, you can
see the the only
place that
Alachua County
truly excels is
the "less than
$15,000 range."
Even more
troubling is
that Alachua
County shows a
serious deficit
in job
opportunities in
the $25,000 to
$50,000 range.
This is the
range in which
people often
land in when
they leave
college and the
range in which
young families
are finding
their start.
If there aren't
enough
opportunities
for young
people, then the
community will,
likely, remain
economically
stagnant.
