To The Alachua
County
Commission:
Commissioner Lee Pinkoson, Chairman
Commissioner Paula DeLaney, Vice-Chair
Commissioner Mike Byerly
Commissioner Cynthia Chestnut
Commissioner Rodney Long
We, the people
that have signed
the following
petition, believe
that the Alachua
County Choices
Program is not
and will not be
successful.
As of July,
2006, $14
million have
been taken out
of circulation
in our local
economy while
fewer than 250
people have
signed up for
the program.
It has become
apparent that
Choices was
created with bad
information and
without a
complete
understanding of
the problem that
the Commission
was attempting
to solve.
We ask that the
Alachua County
Commission
redress this
situation by
doing the
following:
1. Put
Choices back on
the ballot for a
recall, and put
it on a General
Election Ballot
where voter
participation is
expected to be
at its highest.
2. Should
the voters chose to
end Choices,
offer the
voters several
options for how
to use the money
already
collected.
